12/10 | The Letters

Beloved Connor,
I do so hope you are still smitten with me, and not this William Cobb. He does seem like quite a unique character, though. A handsome, modern man who is only but a year younger than we, but has the intellects of a professor! I would fancy to meet him one day, but I fret I would take one look into those eyes you mentioned and be slain. I do admit, however, that art can recognize art, but not in any romantic way! The day falls for the night, as does the moon for the sun. They are opposites, Connor. Love shall remain the same. I dread for you to befall the same fate as your uncle. Locked away in some asylum because of another man. You do know he hasn't spoken to anyone since his imprisonment, don't you? He has been declined any opportunities to speak to his sons in fear he may "turn them". His own children!
My parents are feeling considerably well. My mother hasn't had that terrible fever since you departed from Kinsale. Come to think of it, her horrid fever broke promptly after your ship withdrew from the peer. Though I cannot speak on behalf of my father, I should assume his knee is doing considerably better. As a matter of fact, he threw aside his cane at the same time as my mother's fever breaking. This leads me to believe it has recovered. Quite unusual timing, don't you agree?
As of our governor, he has been found dead. Oh, Connor, it's dreadful! His body was found destroyed and slightly decayed in his study on the 28th of November. Which, as you know, was a day after you left for Drogheda. Naturally, this caused rumors throughout Kinsale. Many believe you are to blame for his death. I've been trying to squash the rumors, though I feel it's to no prevail.
On the 7th, I told the fine ladies at my soiree that you would never kill somebody so gruesomely. Of course, they dismissed my case.
"How would you know?" one inquired.
Another one ridiculed me by saying, "He only just appeared one year ago, and he proposed to you one month later!"
"This is true," I replied, "but he is a kind-hearted man."
Assuming you are curious about my well-being, I suppose I shall tell you how I'm fairing. I must admit, I'm not in the peak of health. I often find my abdomen is sharp pains throughout the day. I do so wish for your swift return, my dear.

Your dearest fiance,
Courtney Fox

I'm not homophobic. I am all for homosexuality. If you've met me (or read some of my other writings), you know.
Also, I'll release a continuation when one would receive their letter from the other.
