Learn the 5 Signs of Mental Illness

The 5 signs help you point out the signs of mental illness. You should know the 5 signs because it might be someone you know dealing with it. Or you might not even know who she/he is, you should still help. If mental illness is not treated,it might lead to suicide. And yes, that is true. 100%. If anyone jokes about suicide let me get one thing straight, IT’S NOT FUNNY.

You can recognize the five signs by watching people and by listening to them. For example, if someone is not taking care of themselves, you can see that if they stop eating healthy foods. By being alert and paying attention to our friends, we can notice if their behaviors change. One way their behavior might change is if he or she is suddenly aggressive and lashes out unexpectedly. One of the signs is withdrawal. In elementary school that might be seen as someone stops playing with other kids and stops raising his or her hand. A friend might demonstrate hopelessness by saying things like, “I can’t do this. This is way too hard. I give up.”

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) can help through education, research, advocacy, and support. Their education programs help by making people aware of the signs and telling them to get help. One program is called More Than Sad, and it teaches students about depression (which is more than being sad). To help get more More Than Sad programs in schools, I want to raise $1,000 for AFSP. That would put TEN More Than Sad programs in schools. You can help me reach my goal by donating here.
