Ukraine (Part 1) | Svieta’s Travels

Hi! My name is Svieta. I like to travel. I’m not sure what else there is to say.

Recently I went to Ukraine. Ukraine is an amazing country located in Eastern Europe.

I knew some of the language when I went there, so I could get around a little. I went to a few towns/cities (called oblosks) while I was there. I went to the capital (Kiev), Lviv, and to a cherry farm in the Caresthians.

On the cherry farm, there was the hammock in the trees. It felt so nice to just sit in it amongst the trees. Everything was so tranquil. I picked tons of cherries and they tasted amazing. And the hedgehogs! The hedgehogs in Ukraine are huge! They aren’t those tiny things that everyone knows.

Anyway, I found two hedgehogs hidden under a tree. They fled as soon as I got close, though.

The toilets in Ukraine are insane (to non-squat toilet users at least). They are pretty much just holes in the ground. In one bathroom, it was literally just a box with a hole. Seriously! I was visiting this one person’s house and I needed to use the bathroom. So I asked where it was and I was directed to the end of the hall. I opened the door to this tiny closet-sized room with a box-with-a-hole toilet. ... I used the box-with-a-hole. What? I needed to go. But not all the toilets are like that. True, there are squat toilets and public restrooms that require you to bring your own toiletpaper. There are bathrooms in Ukraine that are like bathrooms in America. I guess squat-toilets are the norm over there, though.

Ukraine is super fun. The food there is delicious!

They eat a TON of tomatoes, beets, and dill weed over there. So much dill weed. There are feral dog s walking about like they own the place. Stay away from those packs. They can be dangerous. But they’r e kind of funny in the sense that there are tiny terriers walking around with huge hounds.

So I was walking up this street (which is a steep hill) and there were venders on the sidewalks. They were selling things like little wooden chickens, metal turtles, hats, shirts, matryoshka (nesting dolls), and stuffed animals. I bought a few of those things (chicken, turtle, matryoshka, stuffed animal).

More to come later!
