How Brian Got Infected
It all started off like any other day. If one were to look back at this day, they wouldn’t have expected such a darkness to come. The sun was shining, making the morning dew sparkle. Families were outside laughing, their guards down. A young man with green hair was spending what would be his last minutes with friends. Of course, this man did not know that yet. He didn’t even know what he was going to eat for dinner.
The friend group was comprised of wide array of characters. A loud (and slightly drunk) young man named Matt and a spunky young lady named Amy make up the more social part of the group. The more quiet part was comprised of twins, one male and one female. Their names were Anthony and Andrea. They had a bitter rivalry that manifested in passive aggressive attacks on one another. Other than the twins, the other quiet member of the group was a young male named Mark. He was quiet, but only because he analyzed situations to make the best possible remarks. Finally, the lat member of the group to mention, is the young man mentioned earlier. He was slightly awkward and outgoing, but not as outgoing as Matt or Amy. His name is Brian.
While Brian and his friends basked in the joy and light, something else was lurking in the pain and darkness. It crept along, feeding on those unlucky to be in its path. Slithering, consuming, infecting, it made its way through the alleyways. The creature stopped on the precipice between the shadows and light. Making an ominous purring sound, it waits for the poor soul dares walk near it.
The friends began to make their way down the street with Matt and Amy leading. Andrea was talking with the socials while her brother and Mark discussed the latest hero movie. Where was Brian? About a meter behind them because he was tying his shoe.
“Hey guys, wait up!” Brain called after his friends.
He started to run after them, but something tripped him. Something had just coiled around his ankle and stopped him from moving. Brian could feel the something creeping up his leg. Pulling himself up, he looked at what was slithering on him.
He wished he hadn’t.
It was like thousands of black snakes working as one. The darkness was quickly engulfing his lower body and seeping through his skin. Brian could feel the icy-hotness coursing his veins. His eyes widened in horror. Twisting himself onto his stomach, he tried to crawl to get away. He tried to use his quickly numbing legs, but he couldn't. It was like Brian's legs aren't even there anymore. Screaming out in help, his friends turned to face him only to be disgusted. They all screamed in fear, thus striking fear into those around them. Brian began to panic as the darkness began to consume him more. Reaching out for help only made things worse as black lightning shot from his finger tips directly at his friends.
Down went Mark in a jolt, his dead body’s veins stained black.
The friends all stood in silence, all disturbed, at their dead friend.
Anthony was the first to say something, "Monster."
This only made Brian more distraught. Calling out for his friend only made things worse. More black lightning shot out from him.
Down went Anthony, landing flat on his face with the same stains as Mark.
Andrea threw her bitter rivalry aside to scream at the loss of a brother. She rushes over to him in shock at turns over his body to see his face. This was her fatal flaw.
Down went Andrea as she went limp and hit the ground hard.
Only two more remained. Matt and Amy watched Andrea's body hit the pavement in fear. Slowly, they turned their heads to look at Brian. However, there was no Brian. The only thing that remained of Brian was his purple shirt with black stains.
"What do we do?" asked Amy, looking to Matt for help.
"R̴̶̨̀̕ú̢͟͢n̨" warns a sinister voice from behind them.
Amy and Matt turn around to see what they believe is Brian.
His once kind, blue eyes were now completely black. His face that once beamed with emotion only displayed a sinister smile. A large, non-bleeding gash covered his chest, the point of it right above his heart which was glowing black through his skin. Smaller gashes covered his torso and arms, but they were all bleeding.
"B-Brian?" Amy asked shakily, taking a step towards him.
"R̴̶̨̀̕ú̢͟͢n̨"
Amy, not wasting any time, obeys and starts to run. Matt, however, does not. He simply stands there, watching his friend be overtaken with some sort of monster. Brian smirks and runs at Matt, fazing right through him.
Down went Matt, a large black spot on him.
Amy turned her head at the noise of a body hitting the floor. She stops at the sight of her dead friend. Swallowing her emotions, she turns back around to be faced with Brian.
"B̀͘̕̕͜o҉̛͞ò̷͘͡ "
Down went Amy.
Brian laughs at his deceased friends. The laughter resonated at first, but slowly wasted away to nothing. Brian blinked, the laughter over. For a split second, his eyes reverted back to normal. He started to walk, passing the bodies as he went. In his mind, he knew he should be feeling something at the sight of these people with whom he had bonds with. However, he felt nothing. No joy nor sadness nor satisfaction. The only thing on his mind was a single thought.
