1/16 | The Letters

Dear Connor,
I believe I have found some correlation to the series of murders with seemingly no links. All of them have a connection to you and a streak of greed. Now before you dismiss me, I must bring to your attention that you've met them all. You see, I have done some investigating myself. The old bank teller you spoke of dealt with incoming visitors to Drogheda, such as yourself. I believe he must've charged you more than your worth as, according to the records, he had a nasty greed streak. The judge in Lady O'Sullivan's trial wasn't the most well trained one, if I have learned anything from the papers. According to one reporter, he only took the job for the high pay. Now as a reporter yourself, you've met the judge. You've probably even had a drink with him, based on his character and your own. Therefore you will know that this is true. As for the potato seller, I've got quite a bit of information on her. You see, darling, she and the old bank teller worked together. In fact, they were married to one another. The teller charged unsuspecting tourists more than he should have, the potato seller would in turn set up shop outside the inn, and would trick the tourists to think she was a poor old potato seller. It is true that she was old, but she wasn't poor. The scheme her and her husband had was truly effective. Plus, the potatoes she sold were purchased from the market.
Now about the doctor who worked on William. That man was an escaped convict who was arrested for tax fraud, embezzlement, and theft. I would get into the details, but there are too many for my weak hands to write out. The brief version is he wanted money and didn't want to loose it. As for his connection to you, well, I do believe it is fairly obvious.
I must say, I feel quite terrible for poor young William. He seems like such a fine lad who doesn't deserve such heinous acts against him. He had to watch the gruesome manslaughter of those innocent townsfolk, then his hand got bitten off, and now people are accusing him of it all. To be frank, if I didn't know William, I would've assumed that it was him. The reports of the murders, however, is what reinforces my stance on William's innocence. A beast too terrible to speak of that crushed their victims into paste? No matter of man could've accomplished such a feat. I have no information on what the beast could've been, I am sorry to say. I must confess that I find myself in a dire situation. I've had to write this letter too many times to count as I keep vomiting onto my parchment. I now lay in bed, my health deteriorating by the minute, and vomiting into a waste basket my handmaid has provided me with. I'm sure it is just a quick ailment that will pass within due time, my love.
Your dearest fiance,
Courtney Fox
Heir to the Fox Company

My father believes you have a curse.
