Raphael Santi

Raphael was born on April 6th, 1483 in Urbino, Italy, to Giovanni Santi who just so happened to be a famous artist himself. When Raphael was 11 years old, his father died. Raphael is famous for creating baby angels, also called cherubs or putti. Raphael drew or painted these baby angels. Raphael made religious paintings for churches, and ancient myth paintings or portraits for people and churches.

Raphael also painted St. George many times. He is often shown as a soldier slaying a dragon while on a horse. St. George was a soldier in the Roman army. When he became a Christian, he left the army. People in England like him and made him a saint.

St George by Me

Raphael lived among the greats, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. He is significant because he developed his own style and inspired may other artists.
